Which Essential Oils Are Good For Your Skin

A lot of folks love essential oils.

Some people put them in a diffuser for aromatherapy, while others incorporate essential oils in their beauty routine, such as with an invigorating enzyme body scrub containing peppermint oil or a product with rosemary oil to stimulate hair growth.

Essential oils are sourced from parts of plants such as seeds, roots, and rinds.

Makers of essential oils use various methods to concentrate the plant extracts into oils. Then, if they are to be used topically, these super-potent oils must be diluted in a carrier oil like argan oil, jojoba oil, or sweet almond oil.

For many people, topically applying a diluted essential oil can be helpful in addressing different skin concerns. Essential oils can have anti-aging properties and provide balance for acne-prone skin. Some essential oils can affect what's occurring beneath the skin's surface.

As a natural antioxidant, lemongrass oil can fight against the free radicals that wreak havoc on skin. It also has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties which may fend off minor skin irritations. And rosemary oil, as mentioned above, has been used for promoting hair growth because rosemary essential oil may increase blood flow to the scalp.

It's important to know that some fragrant plant oils may cause skin reactions. Citrus oils, including lemon, tangerine, and grapefruit, can pose a problem for all skin types. However, if these citrus essential oils are diluted sufficiently, they can be completely safe for most folks. Mint oils and camphor oil are also up there on the list of potential irritants.

Those with especially sensitive skin should do a patch test first before applying products with essential oils. A certain essential oil may cause an allergic reaction, while other essential oils might not.

Trying a small diluted amount prior to applying it all over is a clever course of action if you want to avoid allergic reactions.

So how to find an essential oil blend or a product with essential oils that will help you get glowing skin?

Below, we've listed a number of our favorite skincare products that contain the best essential oils and other natural oils that beautify your face and body.

1. Frangipani (Plumeria)

Frangipani (or Plumeria) is known for its ability to moisturize, purify and soothe dry skin.

As an antioxidant, it is often used in anti-aging serums and to help with skin toning. It's a rich source of lignin, which binds cells together, providing structure and keeping skin supple and firm.

Frangipani is also famous for its fragrance. The tropical scent has rejuvenating qualities for both mind and body. It's easy to see why one might want to incorporate it in their skincare routine.

Luckily, we're about to reveal a couple quality contenders from JUARA's line of luxe skincare where you can find frangipani in the list of ingredients.

Both Candlenut Glow Body Oil and Kartini Body Oil feature frangipani (plumeria).

The Candlenut Glow Body Oil boasts a mix of botanical oils that nourish and nurture the skin, returning it to a youthful supple state. The antioxidant action from the plumeria, passion fruit, candlenut, and turmeric take this oil to the next level and also imbue it with its intoxicating aroma.

Candlenut Glow Body Oil boasts an ideal balance of omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, which reduces inflammation and strengthens the skin barrier. This best-selling elixir will help you and your skin experience next-level luxury.

Even if you have oily skin, JUARA body oils will work for you. Oils like candlenut oil, rice bran oil, and rosehip oil that are high in Linoleic Acid help clear out pores, so that the effect is not only moisturizing but clarifying.

JUARA Kartini Body Oil is another indulgent body oil that brings the best botanicals to saturate the skin with all their natural goodness. This oil replenishes moisture, firms skin, and brings back a more beautiful, youthful you.

This oil was named after Princess Kartini, a beloved Indonesian leader, and when you smooth it on your body, you will certainly feel like you are getting the royal treatment and radiant skin care you've been needing.

2. Frankincense Essential Oil

You've no doubt heard of frankincense. It's up there with myrrh and gold if that gives you any idea of how highly regarded it has always been. It is even said Cleopatra used frankincense in her beauty regimen.

Here we are centuries later, still looking for the fountain of youth, returning to one of the most time-honored essential oils. And like many essential oils, it has made its way into a wonderful product.

Frankincense Revitalizing Face & Eye Cream by Inna Organic relies on the rejuvenating properties of Frankincense, as well as jojoba and beeswax for maximum moisture. This cream also contains ribose, a natural sugar that transforms tired-looking skin into a more youthful and vibrant visage.

This face cream is certified-organic, and especially gentle. Still, it's powerful enough to pull off some serious moisturizing and tightening.

3. Five Flavor Berry (Schizandra chinensis)

Schizandra (sometimes spelled schisandra) chinensis is a fruit-bearing vine. The fruit has been described as having five tastes (sweet, salty, bitter, pungent, and sour), which explains why it is often called the five flavor fruit or berry.

Five flavor berry is packed with powerful antioxidants. As we've already mentioned above, antioxidants help protect cells from photodamage and other oxidative stress.

It's not surprising that schizandra essential oil or fruit extract fights against many elements that lead to premature aging. Interestingly, it has also been used to alleviate stress and anxiety, as well as provide some relief from PMS.

However, since we're on the subject of skincare, we'll focus on how it keeps skin healthy and youthful.

One skin care product that harnesses the anti-aging benefits of the five flavor fruit is Radiance Vitality Oil by JUARA.

The name of this oil gives an accurate indication of what it will deliver to dull or dry skin. The mixture of nourishing botanicals includes candlenut, macadamia, avocado, and squalane oil, all of which bring balance and hydration. There's also coconut oil to calm and soothe skin.

Just like five flavor berry defends skin against free radicals, so does turmeric root extract (with a little help from vitamin C). Turmeric can help even skin tone and diminish dark spots, making it the perfect ingredient for a turmeric eye cream. It also has anti-bacterial properties that lessen the likelihood of blemishes.

Not only does the Radiance Vitality Oil treat the typical signs of skin aging, but it also brings about a luminous-looking glow.

And here's a bonus beauty tip: add a few drops of JUARA Radiance Vitality oil with your moisturizer to make it extra nourishing. You can also add a little to massage oil. Your newly radiant and smooth skin will thank you.

Turmeric and rosehip oil are not essential oil but are antioxidants like Schizandra essential oil

4. Helichrysum essential oil

This essential oil is known for its skin renewal and wound healing capabilities. These characteristics may be due to helichrysum's antibacterial properties and anti-inflammatory properties that help skin fight infection and swelling.

Though skin inflammation is a natural defense mechanism, it can also cause or exacerbate other skin diseases. Using essential oils to address these issues has helped many people.

L'erbolario Moisturizing Face Cream is a daily face cream that will make your skin glow and look more youthful. Made in Italy from helichrysum, aloe and olive leaves, it hydrates and helps skin to heal itself.

Even though it's rich and moisturizing, it's surprisingly light. It also absorbs quickly, which is ideal when it comes to using it as an under makeup primer. If you are new to having essential oils in your skincare routine, this might be a nice introduction.

L'erbolario Moisturizing Face Cream is a definite do for dry skin. And, just like Juara, this company cares for animals and doesn't do animal testing.

5. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Before we dive into the bevy of benefits that ylang ylang oil brings, it's important to note that it can cause problems for your furry friends, so please keep it away from pets. That concludes our PSA. Now onto the good stuff.

This is one of the most effective essential oils for addressing hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. It lightens acne scars and diminishes dark spots.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil not only brings about balance for skin pigmentation - it's also been known to create balance mentally. Studies have shown it may improve mood and reduce anxiety when applied or inhaled, so here's to your overall health and wellness!

If you want to try this essential oil in a quality skincare product, consider Neroli № 18 Oil Butter by Carter + Jane.

It's essentially an essential oils round-up. In addition to soothing soy butter and shea butter, it has Moroccan neroli essential oil, ylang ylang essential oil, bergamot essential oil,  frankincense essential oil, and sweet orange essential oil (as opposed to bitter orange essential oil which is often used to treat fungal infections).

Made in-house using a proprietary heatless manufacturing process, this oil butter brings both instant and long-lasting relief to dull, dry skin. The vitamin-rich, water-free balm barely touches the skin before it begins to melt in and work its magic.

Consisting of only organic and natural oils, this Carter + Jane creation is super soothing and smoothing. The lovely aroma and luxurious feel make this skin-protecting product a high-quality contender.

Commercial Essential Oils can be antimicrobial and treat skin diseases

6. Lavender essential oil

Lavender essential oil is one of the most frequently referenced and enjoyed essential oils. It has been used to treat everything from eczema and psoriasis to acne and wrinkles.

So what is it about lavender that everyone loves?

Lavender oil kills bacteria, which can help prevent and decrease breakouts. By unclogging pores and reducing inflammation, it can be a lifesaver for those suffering from acne.

Oxidative stress from the sun and other environmental aggressors can cause damage to our skin. This includes common signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and more. Lavender oil contains antioxidants that help you fight off this free radical damage.

As is the case with all essential oils, just make sure you dilute it in a carrier oil before applying it directly to your skin. Or, you can opt for a formula that professionals have already figured out.

Hydra Drench Cream by 100% Pure is a lightweight moisturizer that hydrates skin with Hyaluronic Acid, nopal cactus, and glycerin.

This cream contains soothing rose water and omega fatty acid-filled gel-water from chia seeds, which nourishes and improves skin elasticity. A blend of botanicals brings even more moisture and essential fatty acids

And considering there's a little bit of lavender in there as well, you can imagine how the anti-inflammatory properties heighten the effectiveness of this formula.

Argan oil not an essential oil but argan oil like lavender can combat acne

7. Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is both anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial, which makes it one of the more effective essential oils for fighting acne. Since it can decrease skin surface bacteria, tea tree oil is likely to prevent breakouts before they begin. And because it is an anti-inflammatory, it may help reduce the irritation and swelling often associated with acne.

Tea tree oil can sometimes alleviate itching as well. That's good news for those with sensitive skin who experience that common annoyance.

If you are someone who deals with any of the ailments mentioned above, you may want to consider skincare products that contain tea tree essential oil.

Osea Ocean Cleansing Mudd is one that we'd recommend. This cleanser clarifies and purifies without stripping the oils that help skin function.

The seaweed-infused formula includes tea tree and peppermint oil that clean dirt and other impurities from pores. Peppermint oil is known for its refreshing scent, and has even been used to help sore muscles. The Fucus Vesiculosus algae acts to minimize excess oil and bring balance.

All together, these ingredients give the skin an invigorating, tingly treat.

If you regularly experience breakouts or have especially oily skin, you can use this Ocean Cleansing Mudd once or twice a day. If you have normal skin, it works wonderfully as an occasional exfoliating cleanser
